ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT OF THE PROPOSED KEMESS UNDERGROUND PROJECT

Environmental Assessment of the Proposed Kemess Underground Project Invitation to Comment AuRico Metals Inc. (Proponent) is proposing to develop and operate the Kemess Underground Project (proposed Project), an underground copper-gold mine, located approximately 250 kilometres north of Smithers in north-central British Columbia. The proposed Project would process approximately 24,650 tonnes of ore per day over a 13-year mine life. The proposed Project is subject to review under the BC Environmental Assessment Act (2002) and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (2012). BC’s Environmental Assessment process will be substituted for the federal process, meeting both federal and provincial requirements for environmental assessment. Provincial and Federal ministers will each make their own decision on whether or not to approve the project. More information on Substitution is available at: http://www.eao.gov.bc.ca/substitution.html The Proponent has now submitted its application (Application) to obtain an environmental assessment certificate which is required before any work can be undertaken on the proposed Project. In order to receive comments from the public, the Environmental Assessment Office of British Columbia (EAO) invites the public to submit comments on the Application. There are 30 days for the submission of comments by the public in relation to the Application. The comment period will begin on May 18, 2016 and end on June 17, 2016. All comments received during this comment period in relation to the Application will be considered. The intention of seeking public comments is to ensure that all potential effects – environmental, economic, social, heritage and health – that might result from the proposed Project are identified for consideration as part of the assessment process.
